DIY Coffee Scrub

It's Summer season for most of us around the world and it's the hottest time of the year when you bring out your bikini and embrace the lovely sun. For sun lovers, you would probably be sitting by the pool or beach soaking in the cool waters or embracing the warmth of the sun. While enjoying activities under the sun, don't forget to show some love to your skin.

Here is a post that I did in collaboration with Michelle Pino from Skana Spa. Being the guest blogger for today, Michelle would be sharing with you a D.I.Y Coffee Scrub to pamper your skin during this summer season! Read on to find out how to make your very own coffee scrub in just 4 simple steps and 3 simple ingredients!!!

While the winter months are usually the most talked about in regard to skin damage, irritation and care, it is just as important to take care of your skin in the summer months as well. The cold, dry air of winter can wreak havoc with your skin’s moisture and dryness levels, certainly, but that is just a temporary inconvenience compared to the possibility of permanent sun damage that the summer threatens. Luckily, there are various steps that can be taken to help guard your skin against summer sun damage and help keep you looking your best all summer long.

Since the sun is the primary culprit of skin damage during the summer, the best thing you can do is focus your actions on lessening the impact that the sun has on your skin. If you know you’re going to find yourself in the sun extended periods of time, the easiest and most effective protection method is the application of a high-SPF sunscreen, preferably one with zinc oxide to increase the effectiveness. If you know that you won’t be out in the sun for very long, a moisturizer with some level of SPF content should suffice. The experts at Skana spa of the New York resort Turning Stone were nice enough to contribute this recipe for an exfoliating scrub that will help keep your pores free of dirt and your skin silky smooth.

What you would need:

1/4 cup coffee grinds from a coffee maker or French press
1/2 cup aloe vera gel
1/2 cup coconut oil

Directions:

Strain the coffee grinds fairly well, but it isn't necessary for them to be dry. Melt the coconut oil, pour it over the coffee grinds and stir with a spoon. Add in the Aloe Vera gel and put the mixture aside to set, either in the refrigerator or at room temperature. The grinds will settle near the bottom. If you would like a mixed consistency, you can just mix it a few times while it’s setting. Feel free to use it before it’s fully set, so long as it isn't too hot.

Use it by scrubbing it all over your body in the shower, paying particular attention to the rough skin of elbows and feet. Also, apply the scrub to areas that are prone to developing cellulite and need a little firming action, like the belly, thighs and bum.

Scrub gently in a circular motion with your hands in the direction of your heart. Do this for a few minutes, rinse with cold or cool water and then pat dry with a towel. This scrub isn't recommended for facial use, as it can be too rough for more sensitive areas of the body.

Alrighty, I hope you'll be able to try this out! Do leave me a comment to let me know how you like your coffee scrub.

What a good idea, to use coffee! But a cheaper alternative could be using sugar too ^^
